April Education Article - DCSF responsible for primary school’s building programme
DCSF responsible for primary school’s building programme
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) will directly administer the £7 billion Primary Capital programme, rather than use the established delivery body for education projects, Partnerships for Schools (PfS).
PfS, which is responsible for the government’s £45 billion secondary school building programme, has been criticised by contractors for its slow progress on Building Schools for the Future.
The Primary Capital programme will be undertaken through local authority-managed projects, with DCSF taking an overview. Primary school programmes are considered to be smaller and less complex than secondary ones, meaning local authorities have more capacity and expertise.
